Notebook: Top-10 junior Cheick Diallo continues to develop game
Cheick Diallo is one of the top players in the class of 2015, and he's only beginning the recruiting process.
Heading into the AAU season, Team Scan’s top prospect was expected to be Syracuse-bound Chris McCullough. However, it became clear fairly quickly that teammate Cheick Diallo was going to be the headliner.
Diallo, a 6-foot-9 center from Our Savior New American (N.Y.), was a dominant force during the spring and summer, averaging 12.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks on the EYBL circuit.
“He’s gotten a lot bigger, a lot stronger,” OSNA assistant Eric Jaklistch said. “He really has worked on his body, bulked up to about 220. The goal is to get him to 230, 240 by next year.”
Diallo has already established himself as one of the best defensive players in the class of 2015, and he’s continuing to develop on the offensive end.
“He has an electric motor,” Jaklitsch said. “He’s a gazelle, he plays hard and inspired. That’s what separates him. He has a good hook shot; he can shoot the ball. He’s pretty skilled in the post. Everyone tries to label guys, but he’s got a lot of skill to his game.”
Ranked No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite, Diallo has taken unofficial visits to Iowa State, Pittsburgh and St. John’s. Syracuse, Arizona, Villanova, Connecticut, Providence, Miami, Oregon, Texas, UNLV have all offered, while Kentucky, Louisville, Florida, Kansas and others are heavily involved.
Other OSNA updates:
-- Mike Nzei, who led Adidas Nations in rebounding, could see his stock rise as the season progresses. He visited Iowa, and a lot of Atlantic 10 programs have shown interest.
