P.J. Hairston, Leslie McDonald won't make Connecticut trip with team

North Carolina coach Roy Williams announced Thursday that two of his players -- currently held up by NCAA investigations -- will not fly with the team to the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic this weekend.
North Carolina plays Richmond on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. If UNC beats the Spiders, chances are they would face No. 3 Louisville on Sunday. (Louisville plays 1-3 Fairfield in the opposite bracket on Saturday.)
Williams and the program await the NCAA's investigators' findings into two separate matters regarding Hairston and McDonald. The former relates to the use of driving rental cars during the offseason. McDonald's matter deals with wearing, and perhaps intentionally/unintentionally endorsing, mouthguards.
Neither player has played so far this season. In their place Nate Britt and Marcus Paige have been UNC's starting backcourt, sliding J.P. Tokoto into small forward. The 2-1 Tar Heels are coming off a loss Sunday at home to Belmont.
