Report: LSU transfer Anthony Hickey likely heading to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State needs to shore up its perimeter group, and the Cowboys could have their answer.
Led by its deep and talented perimeter group, Oklahoma State went to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. However, with the early departure of Marcus Smart, the graduation of Markel Brown and the dismissal of Stevie Clark, coach Travis Ford needs reinforcements.
And Ford might have found what he needed on the transfer market.
According to The Oklahoman, LSU transfer Anthony Hickey could be on the verge of joining Oklahoma State.
Hickey, pending an NCAA waiver following his release from LSU, would be eligible immediately and likely start at the point for the Cowboys next season. Hickey (5-11, 182) was one of three LSU players to leave the program last month. Despite a run as a three-year starter, his scholarship was not renewed, with media reports in Baton Rouge referring to “run-ins” with coach Johnny Jones.
If Hickey is indeed eligible immediately, he could step into the point guard spot vacated by Smart. Junior college transfer Jeff Newberry was expected to take over the role, but having multiple playmakers on the court can only help ease the losses. Three-point sniper Phil Forte will start at one of the wing positions.
Hickey averaged 8.4 points and 3.7 assists last season for LSU.
