Technicality costs Louisville student $38,000 contest prize
He played basketball in high school, and the fine print says that's a no-no
Louisville sophomore Jackson Logsdon, who won $38,000 at a women’s basketball game by hitting a layup, a free throw, a 3-pointer and a half-court shot in a competition during a game on Thursday, has been told he is ineligible to receive the prize due to a technicality.
Logsdon, who won the contest held by Million Dollar Media at the KFC YUM! Center, was ruled ineligible because he played basketball “within the past six years.”
It’s true, he did play three years in high school. But according to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Logsdon “mostly came off the bench his senior year.”
“It is a huge bummer as I am an out-of-state student,” Logsdon said in an email to the Courier-Journal. “It would have went a long way to paying off student loans and anything in that manner. It was still an awesome experience and something I’ll never forget. Very bittersweet though.”
Logsdon took it in stride, and even provided some context about it on Twitter. Wasn’t exactly his fault for not knowing the fine print, but hey, the odds of pulling off the impressive feat are pretty long. So all things considered (minus the $38K), it was still a cool experience.
It's true. Due to technicality in the contract. No fault of U of L. Major bummer. Still awesome experience. Thanks for everyone's support! https://t.co/1tjIfZ2Fk2
