Temple adds Boston University transfer Jake O'Brien

Temple has added a potential starter in Boston University transfer Jake O'Brien.

O'Brien was expected to be in the mix for America East Player of the Year, but opted to transfer after the Terriers were ineligible for the league postseason tournament following their decision to leave the conference in 2013-14.

The news was first reported by Chris DiSano, who is the color analyst for Rhode Island games and also runs collegechalktalk.com. O'Brien later confirmed his decision to CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-8 O'Brien will be able to play his final season this year for Fran Dunphy. O'Brien has averaged in double-figures in all three seasons at BU, but missed all of last year due to injury.

He had a relationship with Temple assistant Dwayne Killings, who was an assistant at Boston University under former coach Pat Chambers.

O'Brien gives Temple a face-up power forward who can step out and make shots. He will likely compete with Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and Anthony Lee for playing time and a starting spot.
