The time has come again to showcase some of the best shots -- the other kind -- that basketball had to offer in its first month of the season. From Maui to the Bahamas and literally so much in between.

Which ones are your favorites? I actually had to whittle this thing down to nearly 40 shots, trimmed from 60. The best 10 or so will be seen again a few days following the national title game in April, when I'll run the pics-of-the-year post. But here's what we saw in November. Enjoy, and scroll slowly.

Wonder if this will end up being my favorite shot of the year. San Diego State guard Chase Tapley , center, sets to shoot as Syracuse defends on the deck of the USS Midway. This doesn't even look real. (AP)

You can barely make out the silhouette of the serviceman on the left. Great shot. (Getty Images)
Marquette and Ohio State never got to play. What a disaster this one was. Just look at this scene. (Getty Images)

How great, right? On the night the new Pauley Pavilion opened, there was pretty much a hundred-year difference between the boy on the ground and the image of the man on the plinth. (Getty Images)
Still can't imagine what this conversation was about, but making up a new caption in my head every day has been a nice way to keep the juices flowing. (Getty Images)
Mason Plumlee and Archie Goodwin do the wrong thing to create a right angle. (Getty Images)
Nothing specific about this one, just like that we have it. Those cheerleaders are as brave as any player. (Getty Images)
Mike Rosario , take it from me, this is now how you woo college ladies. Second from the right wins this shot. (US Presswire)
