Villanova's Dominic Cheek enters name in NBA draft

Coming off a tough season in which it missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight years, having its top two scorers leave was the last thing Villanova needed.

Maalik Wayns made his NBA intentions known last month, and now it seems Dominic Cheek will follow to the draft.

“I appreciate all the help I have gotten from my teammates, coaches and friends during my time at Villanova,” Cheek said in a release. “At this point in my life, I feel this is the best decision for me and my family. I am excited to get started with the process of pursuing my dream of playing in the NBA.”

Cheek was a five-star recruit coming out of St. Anthony (N.J.), but never truly lived up to expectations while with the Wildcats. He came off the bench for his first two seasons, but started this past season, averaging 12.5 points and 3.9 rebounds. Most draft services do not project him to be selected in June’s NBA draft.

Freshman Ty Johnson and incoming recruit Ryan Arcidiacono will need to play a very big role in the backcourt next season for Villanova, which went 13-19 overall this year.
