ACC Poll Reactions, Week 2

This week's polls have been released. Here's how the ACC fared, from the top of the polls to the bottom, and what it means.

5/5. Florida State

The Seminoles scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions and looked well on their way to covering the largest point spread (70 1/2) in college football history before lightning - and an agreement between both schools - ended the game in the third quarter. Florida State has outscored opponents 124-3 -- an impressive statistic to voters regardless of competition. But the cupcakes are gone now, and Florida State will have a visit from 2-0 Wake Forest before the much-anticipated showdown with Clemson on Sept. 22.

11/11. Clemson

After impressing voters with their opening weekend win against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Classic, the potent Clemson offense was back in full swing against Ball State in the home opener. The Tigers jumped to a 45-10 halftime lead thanks to a 61-yard Spencer Benton field goal as time expired in the second quarter. It was the final game of Sammy Watkins' suspension, though he hardly was missed thanks to another 100+ receiving yards from Nuke Hopkins. Hopkins is only the fourth receiver in school history to record three straight games with 100 or more receiving yards.

13/13. Virginia Tech

The Hokies hang tight, moving up only two spots after a 42-7 victory over Austin Peay. Logan Thomas recorded three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), but the offense looked a little shaky early against their FCS opponents. The coaches and players admitted after the game the short week - Virginia Tech outlasted Georgia Tech 20-17 in overtime only five days earlier - affected their play. A full week of preparation and rest should have them ready for a trip to Pittsburgh, which is still looking for its first win under Paul Chryst.

Others Receiving Votes: After nearly upsetting Virginia Tech and handily defeating Presbyterian, Georgia Tech is on the outskirts of the Top 25 in both the media and coaches polls. The Coaches also have given votes to Virginia and Wake Forest (both 2-0), while North Carolina (1-1 after a loss to Wake Forest) still gathered some votes in the AP Poll.
