AdvoCare V100 Bowl: Preview, Predictions, TV info

What: AdvoCare V100 Bowl

Who: Arizona (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) vs. Boston College (7-5, 4-4 ACC)

When: Tuesday, Dec. 31, 12:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Where: Independence Stadium (48,975), Shreveport, La.

Opening Line: Arizona -7.5

What matters: Arizona bounced back from one-score losses to UCLA and Washington State with a dominant 42-16 victory against Oregon that bounced the Ducks from Pac-12 title contention. The Wildcats are looking for their second bowl victory in as many years under Rich Rodriguez after a thrilling 49-48 comeback win against Nevada in the 2012 New Mexico Bowl. First-year coach Steve Addazio has led Boston College back to the postseason for the first time since its 12-year bowl streak (1999-2010) was snapped thanks to four wins in the final five weeks of play.

Who matters: At the risk of oversimplifying this matchup, the game is must-see TV for the potential back-and-forth between the nation's two leading rushers this season. Boston College running back Andre Williams totaled 2,102 yards and 17 touchdowns to lead the country, while Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey continued his dominant streak from last year and finished with 1,716 yards (in one less game) and 17 touchdowns. Both players can carry the ball 25-30 times between the tackles, but a both players are also one missed tackle from a long touchdown -- Williams leads the nation with 17 runs of 30 yards or more.

Matchup question: Will anyone be able to stop the run? Both teams rank near the middle of their respective conferences in rushing defense, each giving up more than 150 yards per game on the ground. Williams has been held under 100 yards three times this season (once due to injury) while Carey has run for at least 100 yards in every game he has played since Nov. 3, 2012.

Prediction: If both teams were to sell out to stop the run, Boston College at least has a proven passer in senior quarterback Chase Rettig. Rettig, who's role has been more of a game manager in 2013, was a 3,000-yard passer a year ago but lacks the rushing threat presented by Arizona quarterback B.J. Denker (898 yards, 5.38 yards per carry, 12 touchdowns). Boston College 34, Arizona 32
