Bears add Bralon Addison to active roster

Late Tuesday the Chicago Bears decided it was time to upgrade the punt returner position.

The Bears activated former Oregon running back Bralon Addison to the active roster, officially placed Eddie Royal on injured reserve and waived offensive lineman Cornelius Edison.

Addison joined the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent this offseason and was cut before the start of the year. Chicago added him to its practice squad in early December.

As a wide receiver at Oregon he caught 146 passes for 1,937 yards with 20 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 21 times for 103 yards with two touchdowns. Despite playing wide receiver in college, the Bears list him as a running back.

Addison also returned 37 punts for 451 yards with three punt return touchdowns. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 220 yards. There is a strong chance he will get an opportunity to return punts during the final two games of the year.

Royal became the 18th player to land on Chicago's injured reserve this year. The veteran receiver has been a disappointment in his two seasons with the Bears. Edison has jumped back and forth between Chicago's practice squad and 53-man roster and will likely land back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
