Brady Hoke has 'no idea' if Michigan should be ranked

When the latest polls came out on Sunday I was was surprised to see Michigan sitting there at 25 in the Associated Press Poll. Yes, the Wolverines played what might have been their best game against Purdue the day before in a 44-13 victory, but it only improved their record to 3-2.

That record makes the ranking somewhat questionable, and when asked about whether he thought his team deserved the spot in the top 25, Michigan coach Brady Hoke wasn't sure.

"Oh, I have no idea," Hoke said when asked during an appearance on the Stoney and Bill Show. "Those polls are like recruiting, that guy's a five-star, four-star, you don't know. You don't know until the end of the season until everybody shakes out."

This is where I point out that Hoke is a voter in the Coaches Poll. A poll that helps decide the national champion.

As for whether Michigan deserves to be ranked at the moment, I do have an idea. As I shared in Poll Reactions on Monday, no, Michigan doesn't deserve to be ranked. No team with two losses this early in the season should be ranked, even if those two losses are against teams ranked in the top 10.

Alabama crushed Michigan to open the season, and while the final score was much closer against Notre Dame, the best teams in the country don't turn the ball over six times in one game.

If there was any other Big Ten team besides Ohio State that deserved to be ranked this week -- and I'm not sure there is -- it should have been Penn State. The Nittany Lions are playing better football than Michigan, and would be 5-1 if not for some missed field goals against Virginia.
