ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Juwan Carter threw for 281 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score and Norfolk State beat South Carolina State 17-7 on Saturday night.

Carter completed 22 of 38 passes, including a 6-yard TD pass to Isaiah Winstead, and scored on a 1-yard run to give the Spartans (2-1) a 14-0 halftime lead.

Tyrece Nick hit De'Montrez Burroughs on an 81-yard TD pass with 1:07 left in the third quarter and the Bulldogs (0-3) were driving for another score early in the fourth quarter when the Spartans' Bobby Price recovered a fumble on the Norfolk State 5.

Josh Nardone kicked a 29-yard field goal on the Spartans' next drive and the defense stopped the Bulldogs twice on downs in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

The game between the MEAC teams was played as a nonconference matchup.
