Clemson picked to win ACC, Boyd named preseason Player of the Year
Clemson was picked to win the ACC Atlantic and Miami was picked to win the ACC Coastal in the 2013 preseason predicted order of finish.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Clemson Tigers was named the media's preseason favorite to win the ACC in 2013, collecting 95 of the 120 first-place votes during balloting at the ACC Kickoff on Monday.
That wasn't the only accolade for the Tigers at the league's annual media event, as Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd was named the league's preseason Player of the Year as well.
Miami edged Virginia Tech Hokies , North Carolina Tar Heels and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the vote for the ACC Coastal Division champion, but no team from that division received more than three ACC Championship votes.
While the game is unrelated to their ACC prospects, the Tigers are going to be under the spotlight from now until the kickoff against Georgia Bulldogs on Aug. 31. The game, on prime time national television in Death Valley, will be the beginning of a highly-touted senior campaign for Tajh Boyd. Boyd is considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and the game against the Bulldogs will feature a stout measuring stick with Aaron Murray .
For Miami, a Coastal Division title and trip to Charlotte for the ACC Championship Game would alleviate some of the pain from missing out on that opportunity in 2012. The Hurricanes finished the season in a tie for the Coastal Division title, but were ineligible to compete due to year two of the program's self-imposed postseason ban.
The Hurricanes offense took off last season thanks to the arrival of ACC Rookie of the Year Duke Johnson and improved quarterback play from Stephen Morris . This year, the Canes will look to build on that success with a tempo-based attack under first-year offensive coordinator James Coley.
