Vanderbilt has requested an interview with Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason for its head coaching vacancy, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

Mason has led one of the country's best defenses the last few years. The new coach replaces James Franklin, who took the Penn State job last week.

Vandy's search is led by Parker Executive out of Atlanta. Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris also is considered a candidate for the job.

Mason, a Broyles Award finalist, led the nation's third-ranked rushing defense. He was a Minnesota Vikings assistant before joining Stanford in 2010.

*Duke OC: Duke will elevate associate head coach Scottie Montgomery to offensive coordinator in replace of now-Florida offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, according to a source.

Montgomery spent three seasons as the Steelers wide receivers coach before joining David Cutcliffe's staff last year.

Playcalling will be a collaborative effort with Cutcliffe and Montgomery.

*Georgia DC: One name I'm hearing as a potential target to replace Todd Grantham: Florida State's defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt transitioned well from Alabama defensive backs coach to Jimbo Fisher's coordinator, helping lead the Seminoles' speedy defense to a national title.

If Georgia linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti doesnt' get promoted to coordinator, he could leave for the NFL.
