College football picks, odds, lines for Week 7: State of Texas has a big week ahead
Week 7's best bets include Auburn-LSU, Texas A&M-Florida and Oklahoma-Texas
Each week, I will use this space to tell you what I think are a few of the best bets heading into the weekend. I will also throw in an upset of the week, which will be a team that is at least a touchdown underdog that I am picking to win outright.
Things started to turn back to the good last week, as my picks went 2-1. Only Michigan Wolverines let me down, but I'm sure Wolverines fans feel much worse about that than I do. My record for the season is now 11-6-1. Too bad I did not have the foresight to pick 31-point underdog Iowa State Cyclones as my upset special and Southern Methodist Mustangs didn't come through, so my record on those picks is now 2-4.
Week 7 Picks
Auburn Tigers at LSU Tigers (+7): The Bayou Bengals picked up a nice win at Florida Gators last week in a game between two flawed big-name programs. Auburn, however, is one of the two teams in the SEC that has a reasonable shot to challenge Alabama Crimson Tide . Going to take a much better effort for LSU to keep this one close. Pick: Auburn (-7)
Texas A&M Aggies at Florida (-3): The Aggies were a mess after blowing a huge lead at UCLA Bruins and losing their starting QB. Kellen Mond seems to be figuring things out though, and Texas A&M hadn't lost since that opener until last week at home to Alabama. Florida's offense isn't quite the same without Del Rio taking the snaps. If LSU, with its level of dysfunction, can win at The Swamp, the Aggies should be able to at least keep it close, if not win also. Pick: Texas A&M (+3)
San Jose State Spartans at Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (-17): Here is a Saturday late night special. San Jose State just isn't very good. Hawaii hasn't been setting the world on fire either, but the Rainbow Warriors have a huge home-field advantage, and the Spartans just lost by 28 at UNLV Rebels . Hawaii should be able to cover this spread comfortably. Pick: Hawaii (-17)
Upset of the Week
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Longhorns (+7.5): I know. I am a week late picking against Oklahoma, but Iowa State may have done more than upset the Sooners. They may have exposed them. That was the second game in a row that the OU defense gave up a ton of points to what was supposed to be a Big 12 also ran. Texas is better than that, and an upset by the Longhorns this Saturday would not even be the biggest in the last three years of the Red River Showdown. Pick: Texas (+7.5)
Other CFP candidates in action
Arkansas Razorbacks at Alabama (-30) Pick: Arkansas
Clemson Tigers at Syracuse Orange (+22.5) Pick: Clemson
Missouri Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs (-30) Pick: Georgia
Washington Huskies at Arizona State Sun Devils (+17.5) Pick: Washington
TCU Horned Frogs at Kansas State Wildcats (+6) Pick: Kansas State
Purdue Boilermakers at Wisconsin Badgers (-16.5) Pick: Wisconsin
Washington State Cougars at Cal (+14) Pick: Washington State
Ohio State Buckeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers (+24) Pick: Nebraska
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami (-5.5) Pick: Georgia Tech
Utah Utes at Southern California Trojans (-13) Pick: USC
Baylor Bears at Oklahoma State Cowboys (-25.5) Pick: Oklahoma State
