College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, Week 13: Oregon stumbles, Iowa holds off Nebraska

Friday's college football slate served as a nice appetizer for the Saturday ahead, and also brought some affirmation of where teams were slotted in Tuesday's first College Football Playoff Rankings. In particular, No. 15 Oregon's ranking seemed more appropriate after the Ducks blew an 11-point halftime lead and lost 41-38 to rival Oregon State.

Some thought Oregon had been underrated in the debut CFP Rankings, but Friday ended that line of thinking while also bringing good results for a couple of other squads that some believed were overrated in the first poll. Take Iowa, for example. After checking in at No. 24 on Tuesday, the Hawkeyes received some criticism. But the they extended their winning streak to four games on Friday by sneaking past Nebraska 26-20 and proving that maybe they deserve to be ranked after all.

Finally, No. 13 Iowa State and No. 2 Notre Dame won as well to position themselves to maintain their positions in the rankings moving forward into Saturday as the college football season rolls on. The Cyclones knocked off No. 17 Texas 23-20, while the Fighting Irish handled No. 25 North Carolina 31-17.

OSU scores

Oregon State refuses to go away. Tristan Gebbia caps a 16-play, 92-yard drive that ate more than EIGHT minutes with a 1-yard TD run. No. 15 Ducks clinging to a 31-26 lead with 13:26 remaining.

Headed to the fourth

Oregon leads Oregon State 31-19, but the Beavers are driving. Foggy night, rivalry game. Feels like this fourth could weird.

Beavers get closer

Oregon State went for it on fourth-and-1 at the Oregon 10, and it paid off. Gebbia hits Zeriah Beason for a TD on the next play to cut it to 24-19 (2-point conversion failed) with just under nine minutes left in the third quarter.

November 28, 2020, 2:56 AM

Oregon State forced Oregon to punt on the Ducks' first series of the second half. Just Oregon's second punt of the game, and it gives the Beavers some life trailing 24-13 in the third quarter.

Half: No. 15 Oregon 24, Oregon State 15

The Ducks have 299 total yards and have scored on four of their first six possessions. But the Beavers are hanging in there and will get the ball to start the second half.

Flying Ducks

Tyler Shough is dealing tonight, even in the fog. Now 21-13 after an Oregon State field goal. But the Ducks are looking really good offensively.

November 28, 2020, 1:51 AM

All offense

353 total yards of offense between the teams as No. 15 Oregon takes a 14-7 lead over Oregon State into the second quarter. All this despite some conditions that are less than ideal.

Cal appeared to tie it up on a 3-yard TD run by Chris Brown Jr. with 50 seconds left. But the PAT was blocked. After a long conference, the officials stick with the call on the field. Barring an onside kick/recovery, Stanford will win 24-23.

November 28, 2020, 12:41 AM

No. 15 Oregon and Oregon State coming up. But Stanford is trying to ice it vs. Cal first. Cardinal driving while up 24-17 with seven minutes to go.

USF hangs tough

Moral victories aren't worth much. But when you've won only game all season and keep it close against UCF, that's gotta be at least somewhat reassuring for Jeff Scott and the Bulls. UCF leading 45-28 early in the fourth.

Notre Dame has now punted on seven of its last eight possessions after starting with two straight TDs. Notre Dame has the football and is driving while leading 24-17 with under six minutes left.

Would have been more impressive if he'd thrown it left-handed, IMO. But a nifty, very risky, play by Ian Book as the Fighting Irish drive and look to build on a 7-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Here we go

A significant fourth quarter of college football is underway, with No. 2 Notre Dame leading No. 25 UNC 24-17. Tar Heels have the football.

November 27, 2020, 11:13 PM

Shaping up to be a good second half in the Cal-Stanford rivalry. Both teams looking for their first win.

November 27, 2020, 10:50 PM

UCF rolling

Dillon Gabriel is 14-of-22 with 242 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs vs. South Florida as UCF leads 31-14. Knights are the juggernaut of old, but they're still incredibly explosive.

November 27, 2020, 10:43 PM

Tied at half

No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 25 UNC are tied heading to the half. But the Irish will be down a key DB in the second half.
