College football scores, rankings, highlights: LSU sends Orgeron out a winner, conference title games set

The final week of college football's regular season delivered in a big way by featuring several thrilling finishes in games involving ranked teams. Among them was LSU knocking off No. 15 Texas A&M 27-24 to send coach Ed Orgeron off in victorious fashion on Saturday. The Tigers jumped ahead with just 20 seconds left when quarterback Max Johnson found Jaray Jenkins for a 28-yard score.

With the win, the Tigers reached bowl eligibility at 6-6. But it won't be Orgeron coaching the team if it is selected for a bowl. Orgeron said Saturday's game was his last with the team, which means he ends his tenure with a 51-20 record over his five-and-a-half year tenure. Offensive line coach Brad Davis will be the team's interim coach as the program continues its search for Orgeron's replacement.

In other key matchups, Saturday's action decided the matchups for the Big 12 and Pac-12 title games. No. 7 Oklahoma State's win over No. 10 Oklahoma coupled with No. 8 Baylor's win over Texas Tech means the Cowboys and Bears will play for the Big 12 Championship next week in Arlington. It will be a rematch of a game that Oklahoma State won 24-14 on Oct. 2. As for the Pac-12, No. 11 Oregon enjoyed a solid bounce-back from its blowout loss at Utah last week by knocking off Oregon State 38-29.

The win for the Ducks sets up a rematch with the Utes in the Pac-12 Championship. The two sides also played in the 2019 league title game, with Oregon taking home a 37-15 victory.

They call it Bedlam for a reason, and on a day full of thrillers, this one may have taken the cake. Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma 37-33 in a game that came down to the final minute. The Cowboys will play Baylor in next week's Big 12 title game and could be in line for a CFP bid with a victory. What a game and what a comeback for OSU, which trailed by nine in the fourth quarter.

Strong finish for Clemson

A 30-0 Clemson win over South Carolina is about what you would have expected from this game before the season started. South Carolina is a rebuilding program, and Clemson is near the top of the sport. But the Gamecocks' emergence with wins over Florida and Auburn changed expectations for the Clemson game, as did Clemson's relatively poor season. In the end, however, the No. 23 Tigers dominated this rivalry game. SC finished with just 206 yards. DJU never got going for the Tigers, but Clemson can still reach 10 wins with a bowl victory.

November 28, 2021, 4:11 AM

Notre Dame will finish 11-1

Notre Dame has it on cruise control vs. Stanford, leading 38-14 with 9 minutes to go. The Fighting Irish will finish the regular season at 11-1. They were No. 6 entering the game but won't have a conference title game to bolster their case. The big question is how far Ohio State will fall after today's loss to No. 5 Michigan? The answer could determine whether Notre Dame moves up to No. 5 and would be in position to make the CFP with an Alabama, Cincinnati or Michigan loss next week.

LSU sends Coach O out with a dramatic win

Saturday night's game vs. Texas A&M was coach Ed Orgeron's last as the head coach of the Tigers, so it's only fitting that the man who bleeds purple and gold goes out as a winner. Max Johnson hit Jaray Jenkins for a 28-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left to give LSU a 27-24 win. The Tigers defense held, which gets the Tigers to .500 on the season and eligible for a bowl. Will Coach O be on the sideline? That remains to be seen. But his final game in Baton Rouge was one for the ages.

OK State implosion

For more of the ugly details, check out the live blog at this link. But Oklahoma State is in the midst of an implosion and now trails OU 33-24 in the third quarter. Special teams are disintegrating for the Cowboys, who benefitted in the first half from a 100-yard kick return. Still plenty of time, but there's no question about who has the momentum at the moment.

November 28, 2021, 3:08 AM

Kentucky dominating

The Wildcats should expect to be ranked again after this shellacking of Louisville. It's now 38-7 late in the third quarter after a 2-yard TD run by Chris Rodriguez Jr. Wildcats have more than doubled up Louisville in total yardage (396-177) and are just run-in wild. Rodriguez is already at 121 yards, and Will Levis has 91 yards and four RUSHING touchdowns. Sheesh. UK will be 9-3 with a win.

November 28, 2021, 3:05 AM

Aggies in front

Zach Calzada finds Jalen Preston for a 32-yard touchdown on a wild busted play. 24-20 Aggies with 7:33 to go. That's 14 unanswered for Texas A&M. LSU hasn't scored a TD this half and has punted on four of its five possessions.

November 28, 2021, 3:02 AM

LSU leading

LSU is up 20-10 on No. 15 Texas A&M to start the fourth quarter. This would be quite the send-off for Ed Orgeron and would likely make the LSU faithful feel a bit better about striking out on Jimbo Fisher. Still plenty of time for things to change, but if the Tigers hold on, they will be the 13th bowl-eligible team from the SEC.

November 28, 2021, 2:37 AM

Irish cruising

Any visions that some CFP longshots had of a Stanford upset vs. Notre Dame are quickly being dashed. The Fighting Irish are ahead 17-0 in the second quarter. Jack Coan is 14 of 17 for 151 yards, two TDs and 0 INTs. Stanford has just two first downs on five possessions (four punts and a fumble). The Fighting Irish are certainly passing the eye test down the stretch of this season.

November 28, 2021, 2:10 AM

Bedlam is nutty

Follow full live analysis of the game at this link. It's absolutely wild already as Oklahoma State just took a 21-14 lead on a 100-yard kick return from Brennan Presley. Winner keeps their CFP hopes alive and gets some significant bragging rights. Baylor fans are also watching this one closely, as the Bears need an OU loss to play OK State in next week's Big 12 title game. If the Sooners win, however, it will be Bedlam Pt. 2 for the league title.

November 28, 2021, 1:40 AM

Clemson up

The Tigers, ranked No. 23, lead South Carolina 17-0 early in the second quarter. If you'd told me in August that would be the case, I'd have said "yep, that makes sense." But SC's late-season emergence and the Tigers' struggles made it seem like this could be a good game. The Gamecocks will face a steep uphill climb now though.

November 28, 2021, 1:27 AM

LSU up early on No. 15 Texas A&M

Ed Orgeron's regular-season finale at LSU is off to a good start. The Tigers are up 10-0 on Texas A&M in the first quarter thanks to a passing touchdown from Max Johnson to Jaray Jenkins that put the home team on the board first. So far, not much has worked for the Aggies in the ground game, but there's a long way to go in this one. Still, Jimbo Fisher's team is in a hole early.

November 28, 2021, 12:47 AM

Minnesota shocks Wisconsin

FINAL: Minnesota 23, No. 14 Wisconsin 13

After losing multiple running backs to season-ending injuries and losing to Bowling Green earlier in the year, Minnesota held Wisconsin star running back Braylon Allen to 47 yards to beat the No. 14 Badgers and win Paul Bunyan's Axe. The win sends Iowa to the Big Ten Championship Game over Wisconsin and gives Fleck his second season of at least eight wins in the past three years. Quarterback Tanner Morgan threw for 199 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Oregon closes it out

Oregon State never quit, but the Ducks get a 38-27 win behind a 23 of 28 performance for Anthony Brown and a two-TD game for Travis Dye on the ground. Brown also chipped in 83 yards rushing. This result sets up an Oregon-Utah rematch in the Pac-12 Championship Game next week. Washington State needed an Oregon loss to win the North.

November 28, 2021, 12:01 AM

Michigan State holds on

Sean Clifford led a wild snowy touchdown drive to bring Penn State within 30-27 in the final minute. But the onside kick attempt for the Nittany Lions is unsuccessful, and the Spartans hold on. 10-2 regular season for Michigan State, which will have a shot at making an NY6 bowl. Penn State wraps the regular season 7-5. That TD pass from Thorne Reed on fourth-and-15 was the play of the game.

November 27, 2021, 11:54 PM

Buckle up

Alabama trails 10-3 with under four minutes to play and is starting to put a drive together. Amazing that Auburn has held on this long. Can the Tigers hold on just a little bit longer? This has the makings of another legendary finish in the Iron Bowl

November 27, 2021, 11:46 PM

Tanner Morgan gets some redemption for the earlier pick-six by finding's Chris Autman-Bell for a 27-yard TD with 1:56 left in the third quarter. That puts the Gophers up 20-13 and makes Iowa fans quite happy. A Wisconsin loss sends the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten title game. The Badgers have been ineffective running the football today.

November 27, 2021, 11:39 PM

Faced with a fourth-and-15 at its own 20 while leading by three with 5:15 remaining, the Spartans opt to GO FOR IT. And it pays off in a major way. Jayden Reed pulls down a perfectly thrown ball from Payton Thorne to put the Spartans ahead 30-20. With FG kicker woes and driving snow in play, Mel Tucker opted to roll the dice. What a call. That one might carry Michigan State to 10 wins.

November 27, 2021, 11:35 PM

Beavers not done

Oregon State has scored two quick touchdowns here in the fourth quarter to close within 31-21 at Oregon. It was 31-9 just a few minutes ago. The trick for the Beavers is going to be slowing down the Oregon run game. But the Bears have three timeouts and some sudden life on offense. If last night's game between UNC and NC State taught us anything, it's that you never know what can happen in a rivalry game like this.

November 27, 2021, 11:27 PM

Minnesota/Michigan State leading

Two big-time Big Ten showdowns remain close in the second half. Minnesota holds a 13-10 lead on Wisconsin in the third quarter, while Michigan State is up 23-20 on Penn State early in the fourth. Kenneth Walker is up to 125 yards and counting for the Spartans. Maybe uninspiring efforts from Stroud and Young today get him back in the Heisman conversation.

November 27, 2021, 11:18 PM

Auburn ahead

Auburn leads No. 3 Alabama 10-0 entering the fourth quarter. The Tide put together a nice drive in the second half of the third quarter, but a botched hold on a FG attempt ruined the series. The last time Alabama was shutout in a game was 2000 against Auburn. Stunning that we're 15 minutes away from it happening again.

November 27, 2021, 11:14 PM

Oregon ahead

The No. 11 Ducks lead Oregon State 24-9 entering the fourth quarter. They are 15 minutes away from playing for the Pac-12 title. Good showing for Oregon after last week's letdown performance at Utah. Still some work to do, but a 10-win regular season would be nothing to be disappointed about. Oregon has Oregon State doubled up 22-11 in first downs.

November 27, 2021, 11:01 PM

Big Ten updates

A pick-six gave Wisconsin the lead vs. Minnesota earlier. Now, it's Penn State benefitting from a defensive touchdown as the Nittany Lions take a 20-17 edge early in the third quarter. Speaking of Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Badgers take a 10-6 lead into the half. The teams combined for just 241 total yards in the first half.

November 27, 2021, 10:41 PM

Iron Bowl shennanigans

Half: Auburn 7, No. 3 Alabama 0

Is this Saturday going to get REALLY weird? Perhaps, because Auburn held the defending national champions scoreless in the first half of a rivalry game with CFP implications. Would imagine a two-loss Alabama would still have a good case if it beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. But who believes that Bama would turn around and beat the Bulldogs after losing to Auburn? We'll see what the GOAT draws up at half. Follow this link for live analysis and watch for free on

November 27, 2021, 10:21 PM

Spartans bouncing back

Half: No. 12 Michigan State 17, Penn State 14

The Spartans are down some players due to illness, but you wouldn't know it from that first half. Michigan State bounces back from last week's blowout loss to Ohio State with 278 yards in the first half, including 168 through the air. Penn State is hanging tough, though. Should be a fun second half in the East Lansing snow.

November 27, 2021, 10:09 PM

Wisconsin pick-six

Scott Nelson picks off Tanner Morgan and runs it back 25 yards for a Wisconsin touchdown. Those types of plays are the currency of choice in the Big Ten West, and the Badgers just hit gold. Huge momentum swing for Wisconsin in a game that looked like it was going to be a race to 20 points. 10 unanswered for the Badgers. Not sure who tipped it at the LOS, but a tip of the cap for causing the INT.

November 27, 2021, 10:05 PM

Wisconsin ties it

The Badgers are tied 3-3 with Minnesota early in the second quarter. There's just 12:37 left in the half and each team has had the football just once. If Wisconsin wins, it will play Michigan for the Big Ten Championship. If it loses, then it will Iowa representing the West Division. So there are some Hawkeyes watching this one…like Hawks.

November 27, 2021, 9:58 PM

Surprising score

11-0 UTSA, ranked No. 22 in the CFP, is trailing North Texas 45-13 to begin the fourth quarter. The Mean Green are 5-6, and this would be one heck of a way to get bowl eligible. UNT was 1-6 at one point but is on the cusp of closing the regular season with five straight victories. Quite the letdown for the Roadrunners, who were one of just three undefeated FBS teams entering the day.

November 27, 2021, 9:35 PM

Sticky snow?

The snow must be sticky in East Lansing, because there have been some really nice catches in this game by Jahan Dotson and Parker Washington of Penn State. More offense than you might have expected early on in this one after Dotson's second TD of the game ties the score at 14. Kenneth Walker III already has 71 yards and a TD on 11 carries. Nice bounce back for him and the Spartans' offense so far following last week's beatdown.

November 27, 2021, 9:33 PM

Oregon looking strong

Early 2Q: No. 11 Oregon 14, Oregon State 3

Impressive start for Oregon, as the Ducks put up 222 yards in the first quarter and take a commanding early lead. Travis Dye already has a TD and 47 yards on the ground. A win puts the Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship Game. A loss and Washington State will go. Oregon State's chances of winning the division were dashed with WSU's win over Washington last night.
