Connor Shaw, Bruce Ellington put on a show in Capital One Bowl win
Connor Shaw threw for three touchdowns, ran for one and caught another on his way to earning MVP honors after South Carolina's 34-24 win against Wisconsin.
For the third straight season, South Carolina finished with 11 wins and a bowl victory. The Gamecocks' 34-24 win against Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on New Years Day was highlighted by a MVP performance from Connor Shaw in his final college game.
Shaw completed 22 of 25 passes for 312 yards (12.5 yards per attempt) and three touchdowns, while adding 47 yards and a score on the ground and a touchdown reception. Shaw's touchdown catch came off a pass from Bruce Ellington, who had quite an impressive game himself.
Ellington had six catches for a game-high 140 receiving yards, and each catch -- including two touchdown grabs -- seemed to come at a time when the Gamecocks needed a big play. A fine example being Ellington's impressive grab on fourth down when South Carolina trailed Wisconsin 17-13 in the third quarter.
But that wasn't Ellington's only impressive grab of the day.
The game finished with news that many expected; Jadeveon Clowney told ESPN's Tom Luginbill that his South Carolina career is over. Now we wait and debate until May -- Clowney or Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater? The Houston Texans, with Penn State coach Bill O'Brien reportedly on board to be the next head coach, are on the clock.
