D-III RB Cartel Brooks sets NCAA record with 465 rushing yards
The Heidelberg Student Prices celebrated a win over Baldwin Wallace and a new NCAA record thanks to Cartel Brooks' 465 rushing yards.
Cartel Brooks, running back for the Heidelberg Student Princes, broke the NCAA single-game rushing record on Saturday with a 465 yard performance in a 42-14 win against Baldwin Wallace.
Brooks carried the ball 38 times in the win, averaging 12.2 yards per carry and scoring three touchdowns. His dominance on the ground helped the Student Princes convert 7 of 11 third downs and average 9.5 yards per play as an offense. The previous record was set earlier this season by Western Connecticut's Octavias McKoy (455 yards on Oct. 26).
After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, Brooks got the offense rolling with an 81-yard touchdown run. That kicked off a 42-0 run by Heidelberg before Baldwin Wallace snuck a score in with three seconds remaining. If you'd like more details, you can check out the box score on D3Football.com.
