Darnold wins Archie Griffin Award

The Touchdown Club of Columbus announced Sam Darnold the Archie Griffin Award Wednesday, given to the Most Valuable Player in college football. It is the only national award given after the bowl season.

Clemson's Deshaun Watson won the award last season and Darnold became the first freshman to win the award since its inception in 1999.

Darnold was named the Rose Bowl presented by Northwestern Mutual's MVP with five TDs and 474 total yards, both Rose Bowl records.

Matt Leinart won this award twice, in 2003 and '04.
