The Associated Press is reporting that TCU defensive end Devonte Fields surrendered to a misdemeanor arrest warrant Friday, and was released on a short time later after posting a $3,500 bond.
Fields was named as a suspect in a domestic disturbance in Fort Worth early Sunday morning. Fields allegedly punched an ex-girlfriend in the head and threatened her with a gun, saying "I should blast you." He has since been "separated" from the TCU program "pending results of an investigation into the allegations against him."
The news came just after Fields was named the Big 12's preseason Defensive Player of the Year by Big 12 media. Fields played in only three games last season due to a foot injury that required surgery, but in 2012 he finished the season with 18.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and an interception.
Fields is yet to be formally charged, but the misdemeanor assault he's accused of would be punishable by up to a year in prison.
