Emmert not the only one taking questions on Sunday at Final Four
NCAA president Mark Emmert's rescheduled press conference will include three members of the Division I Steering Committee on Governance.
ARLINGTON, Texas -- NCAA president Mark Emmert will be accompanied by three members of the Division I Steering Committee on Governance at Sunday’s rescheduled press conference, NCAA officials said.
Ohio State president Michael Drake, Kansas State president Kirk Schulz and Southern Illinois-Carbondale chancellor Rita Cheng will also field questions during a Sunday morning press conference. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will also attend.
Emmert had been scheduled to speak alone Thursday at his annual address to the media at the Final Four. However, the press conference was reportedly moved to accommodate the schedules of the other participants.
The steering committee’s inclusion suggests that the discussion to veer toward the current restructuring of the NCAA. The committee heard input from members during a two-day dialogue in January at the NCAA Convention in San Diego.
Schulz has been an advocate of opening governance meetings to media as the process continues.
The steering committee contains members of the larger NCAA board of directors. The committee is expected to meet later this month and have a formal proposal for a change in that governance by August.
