Ex-Arizona starting QB picks Baylor as graduate transfer, can play immediately
Anu Solomon is transferring to Baylor to finish out his college career
According to 247Sports, former Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon is transferring to the Bears' program as a graduate student. Solomon will likely compete with Zach Smith, who will be a sophomore, for the starting job. Smith started the final four games of the season, including the 31-12 Cactus Bowl win over Boise State, for the injured Russell and passed for 1,526 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Solomon was the first freshman quarterback to start a season opener for the Wildcats in 2014. Solomon then started in all 14 games that year and led all freshmen quarterbacks in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 3,793 passing yards.
However, Solomon was struck with multiple injuries over the past couple of seasons, limiting his playing time. He announced last month that he was transferring, though he did not say to where.
As a graduate transfer, he will be able to compete for a starting job right away. That's good, as the Bears are extra thin at quarterback. Since new coach Matt Rhule took over the program, Baylor has had some success on the recruiting trail after being down to just one verbal commitment. The Bears now have eight commits for the 2017 class and an experienced quarterback to boot.
