Ex-Vandy player JaBorian McKenzie pleads not guilty in rape case

JaBorian "Tip" McKenzie, one of the four former Vanderbilt players facing rape charges, pleaded not guilty to the five rape charges he faces on Tuesday evening.

According to the Tennesseean, McKenzie entered the not guilty plea and waived his arraignment appearance which had been scheduled for Aug. 21.

He is free on $50,000 bond, which is a much lower bond than the one given to his former teammates (two of whom are jailed on $350,000 bond and a third at $250,000) which has led to some speculation that McKenzie is cooperating with prosecutors.

McKenzie, along with Brandon Vandenburg, Brandon Eric Banks and Cory Batey were charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery on Aug. 9.

The charges stem from an incident in Vanderbilt's Gilette Hall dormitory on June 23 in which the four former players are accused of raping an unconscious woman. They were dismissed from the football team on June 29, six days after the alleged incident.
