FIU player tweets about taking recruit to strip club

The Miami Herald's David J. Neal noticed a pair of ... interesting ... tweets this past weekend from the account of FIU defensive back Demarkus Perkins:

As Neal notes in a hilarious, must-read tutorial on why no part of this series of decisions on the part of Perkins was a good idea, yes, making a trip to the strip club as part of a recruiting visit is indeed an NCAA violation:

Show the recruit the strip club. Point out that if he chooses to attend your university, he can visit the strip club. If you're in South Florida, show the recruit the many places where he can see just as many attractive women showing skin and behaving in a flirtatious manner as the strip club, including your own campus. But DO NOT TAKE THE RECRUIT TO THE STRIP CLUB!

The only money you're allowed to spend on the recruit cannot be used in the strip club. Diamond or the Twerk Twins might not care what money you contribute to their hairstylist. The NCAA or the state of Florida might.

Both Perkins' account and that of defensive tackle Isame Faciane (with whom Perkins was conversing in the tweet above) have been deleted.

By now, of course, it's too little, too late. This isn't a serious violation, we're guessing, but all the same you can probably expect new FIU head coach Ron Turner to establish a Twitter ban -- and another round of team-wide education on the do's and DO NOT's of hosting recruits -- within two to three business days.
