Florida fires OC Brent Pease, OL coach Tim Davis
Florida coach Will Muschamp has fired offensive coordinator Brent Pease and offensive line coach Tim Davis.
Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease and offensive line coach Tim Davis were fired on Sunday, as Gators coach Will Muschamp looks to fix offensive issues that have nagged the team for two seasons.
Citing a source close to the situation, the AP's Mark Long said Pease met with Gators head coach Will Muschamp on Sunday morning and received the news. Florida's season ended on Saturday with a 37-7 loss to Florida State at home, leaving the team with its worst finish (4-8) since 1979.
Florida's struggles in 2013 have partly come as a result of injury issues, but the ineffectiveness on offense has repeatedly cost the Gators an opportunity to win in close games. Under Pease, the Gators finished the regular season ranked dead last in the SEC in total offense (4.79 yards per play) while the defense, which sustained multiple season-ending injuries as well, ranked in the top half of the league.
Pease was not the only staff change for Florida on Sunday, as offensive line coach Tim Davis was also let go, a source told CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman.
One of the big issues UF had this season was friction between Pease and Davis, who according a source told Feldman were almost never on the same page. There is some speculation that Muschamp would consider former Gator Kerwin Bell for the OC job, but Feldman is skeptical of that move because it's not a style of Muschamp wants to run at UF.
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley has repeatedly endorsed Will Muschamp as the coach for the Gators in 2014, but popular assumption has been that staff changes were coming on the offensive side of the ball.
