Florida already has one quarterback pledge for the 2021 class -- four-star Carlos Del Rio -- but the Gators have added another signal-caller with a notable last name to their 2021 class. Jalen Kitna, the son of former longtime NFL quarterback Jon Kitna, announced on Tuesday that he was committing to Dan Mullen's program in Gainesville.
Kitna is a three-star quarterback from Burleson, Texas, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. Per 247Sports Composite rankings, he's listed as a top-100 player in the state and the No. 27 pro-style QB. Kitna made his announcement on his Twitter account.
Speaking with 247Sports, Kitna said he received an offer from the Gators in January and has been in close contact with Mullen and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson.
"I talk with both him and Coach [Dan] Mullen, the head coach. They keep up with me and I've thought we've had some good conversations about what they do and what I am looking for in a team," Kitna said. "We both fit each others standards pretty well and I think they are both excited. I still want to get out there and see Florida, so it's kind of what the NCAA allows in the coming months. That is where I am at right now."
Mullen has been successful getting quarterbacks to his program. In addition to Kitna and Del Rio, the Gators landed a big-time commit for the 2020 class with Anthony Richardson. That should give the quarterback room plenty of depth behind returning starter Kyle Trask and Emory Jones.
