Fresno State-Colorado game postponed due to floods
With flooding in the area, Saturday's game between Colorado and Fresno State has been postponed.
Through the first two weeks of the college football season we've already seen a number of games delayed due to storms. Now, thanks to the devastating floods in the Boulder area, we've had our first game postponed due to weather.
Colorado announced the postponement of Saturday's game between the Buffaloes and Fresno State on Friday afternoon.
“Even though the weather is improving, Boulder is still designated as a national emergency site,” said Colorado chancellor Philip DiStefano in a release. “Our community is hurting. Many of our students are displaced from their homes, including many of our student-athletes. This is not an appropriate time for us to hold a game that would put pressure on the community, both in terms of security/emergency personnel, but also in diverting attention from people in need.”
“Our players have a strong desire to compete, but many of them and many of their friends have personally been affected and I know they support this decision to postpone as well,” said Colorado coach Mike Macintyre. “This is the appropriate decision and we are all 100 percent in agreement.”
Macintyre also told CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler that at least five Colorado players were moved from their apartments to a hotel. Macintyre also said they're hoping to reschedule the game sometime next week if possible.
As for when the game would be rescheduled for, there's no obvious date for it. Colorado has open dates on Sept. 21 and Oct. 19. Fresno State has open dates Oct. 12 and Nov. 16.
While both teams end their regular seasons on the weekend of Nov. 30, the Mountain West Championship Game and Pac-12 Championship Game the following week seemingly make it impossible to schedule the game for early December.
