FSU's Casher held out of opener because of academic matter
Florida State starting SAM linebacker Chris Casher was held out of Saturday's opener against Oklahoma State because of an academic matter.
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Florida State starting linebacker Chris Casher will be withheld from Saturday's opener because of what the school termed "a review of an academic related matter."
The school made the announcement in a release about two hours before the kickoff against Oklahoma State. It did not elaborate, citing privacy concerns.
Casher started 13 games as a redshirt freshman last season.
Saturday's matter is not related to Casher being found responsible for two student code of conduct violations earlier this year. Casher reportedly was given a year of probation by Florida State for the violations related to an investigation of quarterback Jameis Winston alleged sexual assault of a student. No charges were brought against Winston.
