Georgia Tech return specialist Jamal Golden gets fifth year
Georgia Tech announced Thursday that return specialist Jamal Golden has been granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA.
Jamal Golden will have the option to play two more seasons with Georgia Tech after the NCAA granted him a medical hardship waiver for the 2013 season.
Golden suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery after just three games of action in 2013. The speedy defensive back and return specialist now has two years of eligibility left with the Yellow Jackets.
"While we anticipated that Jamal would receive the waiver, I am happy for him," Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson said in a statement. "I know it was difficult for him to watch from the sidelines last season, but he has worked hard to get healthy and he is eager to get started again this spring."
Golden has been cleared to participate in spring practice, which begins March 24. He ranked among the nation's best in both punt return average (14.59) and kick return average (28.35) as a sophomore in 2012, resulting in honorable mention All-ACC honors as a return specialist.
