GIF: Connor Halliday gets into it with a Colorado State coach
Following a touchdown pass Washington State quarterback Conor Halliday got into a heated exchange with a Colorado State coach.
So bowl season has gotten off to a rather interesting start.
After both Washington State and Colorado State exchanged turnovers early in the New Mexico Bowl, Washington State responded with a touchdown drive. Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday hit River Cracraft for a 25-yard touchdown and as he was celebrating the score it appeared a Colorado State coach -- we believe its defensive line coach Greg Lupfer -- said something to him which led to this exchange.
I've no idea what was said, and I'm not an accomplished lip-reader, but it seems pretty obvious they weren't wishing each other Merry Christmas.
After the game Halliday was coy about the incident. "Coach grabbed me and said some profane things to me," he told the Associated Press, "and that's all I'll say about it."
Lupfer did not talk to the media but he issued an apology on Colorado State's Twitter account. "I am truly sorry for what I said. It was wrong and those words do not represent who I am and what I believe in. I apologize for the embarrassment I caused for Colorado State University, this team [and] my family."
