Heismancast: Johnny Manziel, the importance of peaking at the right time

Marqise Lee will have plenty of opportunities to impress Heisman voters in the final weeks of the season.(US Presswire)

In discussing this season's Heisman race, Chris Huston (@HeismanPundit) and I agreed it has reflected the current nature of college football. Everytime we try to finalize something, the sport reminds us that we know nothing. Remember when the Heisman was Matt Barkley's to lose? When everyone thought there was no way Alabama would lose again if it could get past LSU? Remember Geno Smith, and West Virginia's hot September?

In this edition of the Heismancast, Chris and I spend a good amount of time discussing the ascension to stardom for Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. On a previous podcast Chris said that "Johnny Football" would need a win over Alabama to make himself a real contender, and after the Aggies pulled the upset in Tuscaloosa it looks like he is in the running to make the trip to New York. Chris explains some of the history of freshman and the Heisman Trophy, including how Texas A&M's media policy affects his chances to make history.

We also discuss the road ahead for the other Heisman hopefuls, including Marqise Lee, Manti Te'o, Braxton Miller and frontrunner Collin Klein. Chris explains what each candidate can do in the final weeks of the season to jump up and possibly steal the Heisman from the senior Kansas State quarterback.
