Troy @ No. 18 BYU
Current Records: Troy 1-0; BYU 1-0
What to Know
The BYU Cougars have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. They will take on the Troy Trojans at 10:15 p.m. ET Saturday at home. Both teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
When you finish with 467 more yards than your opponent like BYU did three weeks ago, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They steamrolled past the Navy Midshipmen 55-3 on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cougars had established a 48-3 advantage. They relied on the efforts of RB Lopini Katoa, who punched in two rushing touchdowns in addition to snatching one receiving TD, and LB Tyler Allgeier, who rushed for two TDs and 132 yards on 14 carries.
BYU defense was a presence as well, as it got past Navy offensive line to sack the quarterback five times. Leading the way was LB Isaiah Kaufusi and his two sacks. Those were the first sacks for Kaufusi through Week 1.
Troy had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders with a sharp 47-14 victory. The oddsmakers were on Troy side, but they didn't give the team enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide. Troy's WR Khalil McClain was one of the most active players for the squad, catching six passes for two TDs and 75 yards. McClain's longest reception was for 25 yards in the second quarter.
The Trojans defense was a presence as well, as it collected three interceptions and one fumble. CB Terence Dunlap snatched up two of those interceptions, both in the third quarter.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-0. Both the Cougars and Troy have easy wins in recent memory. We'll see which one's ego takes a hit when they face off.
