Alabama held its first official media day of the preseason on Sunday. It is one of the few times during the season that Crimson Tide assistants are made available for questions. That means it was one of the few times to hear from ex-USC coach Lane Kiffin, entering his first season as the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide.

Kiffin spoke about learning from mistakes, not making excuses -- adding "I've made more than anybody, probably" -- and being fortunate to land on his feet in Tuscaloosa after all he had endured in his previous jobs.

"To be able to go [through] what I've gone through and still be fortunate before the age of 40 to be here and be an offensive coordinator with Coach Saban at Alabama, you take some time to reflect on that," Kiffin said.

Kiffin also told reporters there were some conversations about taking an assistant coaching job in the NFL after he was fired by USC. The good news for Kiffin is that with all the offensive talent available, it shouldn't be too hard to win over the Crimson Tide fans in year one.
