USC has awarded a full scholarship to long snapper Damon Johnson, who will transfer in from Citrus College.

Johnson will officially enrollee on Jan. 4.

The Trojans were in need of a specialist with senior long snapper Zach Smith graduating following this season.

Johnson originally committed to USC last January but did not have the grades to qualify for a preferred walk-on scholarship.

Without the grades Johnson, who was originally committed to WVU, went to Citrus Junior College, officially becoming eligible to accept a scholarship from USC last week according to Chris Rubio. Johnson learned that he was awarded a full scholarship.

“This year has been a crazy year from highs to the lows I would say it has been a maturing year for me,” said Johnson.

Johnson was ranked the No. 5 long snapper in the 2016 class via Chris Sailer Kicking and Rubio Long Snapping. Johnson was rated a five-star snapper, making in a Div. 1 prospect.

Johnson is a former teammate of true freshman QB Matt Fink.

"I think what made USC right for me was that the opportunities that are available for me after college," said Johnson, recruited by John Baxter. "I knew USC was the right fit for me once I visited the school and got to see what school would be like and knew I wanted the challenge."
