Bret Bielema has gone 25-26 in four seasons at Arkansas, leading the Razorbacks to three straight bowl games after a winless SEC season in 2013. It's tough to rise up in the SEC West in this era of Alabama dominance, but since the paychecks are huge -- every coach in the division makes at least $4 million per year -- the expectations are high at each and every program.
One Arkansas fan took to the time-honored tradition of paying for an ad in the Sunday newspaper to vent his frustrations with Bielema, basketball coach Mike Anderson and current athletic director Jeff Long. The fan, James Rogers, of Memphis, Tenn., even put his name to his criticism of Long and the approximately $8 million that Arkansas pays to both coaches and the athletic director without "coming close" to an SEC or NCAA championship.
"If you are concerned about the lack of competitiveness in our football and basketball programs; and if you are tired of the never ending spending that permeates throughout the athletics department, please take the time to write Governor Asa Hutchinson and express your opinion!" Rogers wrote, adding the governor's email address to the statement.

Bielema's Arkansas teams have produced some of the top running backs in the SEC but, as James Rogers notes, have not yet been close to SEC West title contention. Sometimes fan sentiment can be impacted by recency bias, and the Razorbacks didn't have the best finish in 2016. After a 31-10 win against Florida, Arkansas lost to LSU by four touchdowns, lost their rivalry game to a bad Missouri team and gave up 35 unanswered points to Virginia Tech in the bowl game.
