Miss. St. to wear white uniforms vs. Texas A&M in "Snow Bowl" commemoration

Mississippi State will commemorate one of the program's most famous games in recent memory -- maybe the most famous game -- with a special set of uniforms when Texas A&M pays Starkville a visit this fall.

The Bulldogs announced last week that when the Aggies come to Wade Davis Stadium Nov. 3, State will wear white uniforms in honor of the "Snow Bowl," the 2000 Independence Bowl that marked the last meeting between the two schools.

Mississippi State, wearing white, won a 43-41 overtime thriller made even more memorable by a freak Shreveport snowstorm--one that has made the game a staple of highlight reels ever since.

The video evidence:

We strongly approve, given the indelible images created from that game, and we'll approve even more strongly if the Bulldogs bring back the white helmets with the interlocking M-S-U logo to go with the white unis. (UPDATE: Uniform blog UniWatch spoke to a State official who said the uniforms will be white, but won't be 2000 throwbacks--and even if they were, they wouldn't feature that particular logo because the rights to it still belong to former outfitter Nike.)

Then-Mississippi State head coach Jackie Sherrill and other members of the 2000 Bulldog teams will be honored during the game. The school is also (already) asking fans to wear white for the occasion, a plan which would normally be called a "white-out" ... even if it won't be quite as impressive as the actual white-out in the Snow Bowl.

"There's no doubt that our fans have created a home field advantage for us with 16 consecutive sellouts," head coach Dan Mullen said. "When everybody is wearing the same color it just shows the unity we have, that everybody is pulling in the same direction."

In this case, that direction will also be towards another miracle blizzard blessing the Aggies and Bulldogs with another classic. Given that we're talking about Mississippi in early November, it won't be likely. At all. But the white uniforms do seem like a good start with the football gods, don't they?
