Nebraska AD: Bo Pelini will continue 'to lead our program'
Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorts may have put any doubts about Bo Pelini's future at Nebraska to rest Saturday morning.
Friday's performance from Nebraska coach Bo Pelini was like, to borrow the words of the Omaha World-Herald's Tom Shatel, like watching a man "set himself on fire." But if you thought you were witnessing Bo Pelini's last game as Nebraska's coach on Friday, it sounds like you were wrong.
On Saturday Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst put his full support behind the Nebraska coach.
“My approach has always been to not comment publicly about our coaches until their full seasons are complete, as I strongly believe it is unfair and counter to best practices," said Eichorst in a release. "However, given the volume of unfounded speculation and conjecture about our head football coach, I want to reaffirm what I have said many times since I have arrived at the University of Nebraska — that I positively respect, appreciate and support our football student-athletes, coaches and staff, as we do everyone in the Husker family. We very much look forward to our upcoming bowl game and Coach Pelini continuing to lead our program in the future.”
Those do not sound like the words of a man getting ready to fire his head coach. I suppose it's still possible that Eichorst could change his mind and fire Pelini after Nebraska plays its bowl game, but I don't think that would be a wise decision.
If Nebraska was going to fire Pelini it would do so now, not in January.
