Notre Dame has reportedly filled one of the two open coordinator positions on coach Brian Kelly's staff.

According to 247Sports, the Irish are expected to announce Wake Forest's Mike Elko as Brian VanGorder's replacement as defensive coordinator. Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman and Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated note that the deal is currently being finalized.

Elko first linked up with Wake coach Dave Clawson at Fordham and has remained on his staff through stops at Richmond (2004-05) and Bowling Green (2009-13), spending three years at Hofstra in between.

Each of the past two seasons, Wake Forest has been one of the top two teams in the ACC in red-zone defense with stars like Kevin Johnson and Marquel Lee going on to earn All-ACC honors. The Demon Deacons also ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense in 2016, giving up 21.8 points per game.

As for the other staff opening, offensive coordinator Mike Sanford left South Bend to take the head coaching position at Western Kentucky
