Irish247 has been informed that offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey has made a decision and will return to Notre Dame for the 2017 season.
There has been speculation about the 2016 captain's future, whether it would be in South Bend or the National Football League. However, we're confirmed through a connected source that McGlinchey has ended any thought of entering his name in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Irish247 was informed that the 6-7, 310-pounder received a first round grade, but chose to come back in an attempt to win a national championship with the Fighting Irish this upcoming season.
This news doesn't come as much of a surprise, as McGlinchey stated often during the season that he intended on returning to Notre Dame for one more year. In late December, head coach Brian Kelly spoke about the 2016 season and indicated that he felt strongly McGlinchey and offensive guard Quenton Nelson were returning to South Bend in 2017.
For his efforts this year, McGlinchey earned multiple postseason honors. He was named a 3rd-team AP All-American. He was a third-team member of Phil Steele's All-American team as well.
