Because, honestly, we could use a break from it too.
|Jared Barnett moved over one state and down one level. (US Presswire)|
It was only 14 months ago to the day that Jared Barnett was throwing for 376 yards, rushing for another 84 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns to help his Iowa State team shock the world and knock off an undefeated Oklahoma State team. It was an upset that could have altered history, because had Oklahoma State won and remained undefeated Alabama never would have had a shot at its rematch against LSU.
And now, 14 months later, Alabama has won two more national championships and Barnett is no longer a member of the Iowa State football program. Hell, he's not even in the FBS anymore as he announced that he had transferred to Illinois State to finish his career.
Not exactly the way he probably expected things to go after that November night, but I wish him the best of luck at Illinois State.
-- Hugh Freeze continues to kick butt and take names on the recruiting trail. Not only is Ole Miss the favorite to land Robert Nkemdiche -- the top recruit in the country -- but on Thursday it got a verbal commitment from the top high school receiver in the country, Laquon Treadwell.
-- Chip Kelly may say that he's "burned the boats" and that he's an NFL coach now, but something tells me if the NFL doesn't work out and he wants to return to college someday, he won't have much trouble finding a job. Of course by then his offense will probably be obsolete because college football is just awesome that way.
-- Everybody wanted Johnny Football to be Johnny Golf and play in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but thanks to those darn NCAA rules, it would have cost Manziel $20,000 to do so.
-- Former Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf has been sent to prison and he could be there for some time.
-- This all seems pretty stupid unless it comes with some kind of voice-modifier.
