Pat Dye thinks Condi Rice shouldn't be on selection committee
Former Auburn coach Pat Dye on Condoleezza Rice being named to the College Football Playoff selection committee: "All she knows about football is what somebody told her."
Say what you want about former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice being named to the College Football Playoff committee, the decision has certainly garnered quite the reaction.
The latest comes from former Auburn coach Pat Dye who did not shy away from expressing his feelings when asked about it. While appearing on a radio show in Alabama on Monday morning Dye did not hesitate to critique Rice.
"All she knows about football is what somebody told her," Dye said, according to AL.com. "Or what she read in a book, or what she saw on television. To understand football, you've got to play with your hand in the dirt.
"I love Condoleezza Rice and she's probably a good statesman and all of that but how in the hell does she know what it's like out there when you can't get your breath and it's 110 degrees and the coach asks you to go some more?"
So, to summarize, nobody can know anything about football unless they've played it. Or watches game tape. That's why I know about the Civil War. Not because I studied it in school, but because I fought in it. I had my hand in the dirt.
Maybe what Dye meant to say was that Rice doesn't know anything about football because she isn't a man.
Listen, there are reasons why anybody that's been named to the selection committee shouldn't be on the committee. The truth is that there is no perfect candidate for the position because nobody knows everything about college football (except you of course!). But I'm of the opinion that if Rice could be trusted to make decisions that not only affected the United States, but the world in general, as Secretary of State, she can probably handle picking four college football teams to compete in a playoff.
It's just a hunch.
