PHOTO: Reuben Foster has made additions to his Auburn tattoo
Reuben Foster's Auburn tattoo became the most talked-about ink in college football when he signed with Alabama. Here's how he has adjusted it.
With Tyler Bray and his famous (infamous?) back tattoo having moved on -- however clumsily -- to the NFL, it might be time for Alabama to claim another national championship, this one in the field of "most well-known tattoos sported by current players."
There's AJ McCarron's chest extravaganza, of course. But the Tide got a second addition in Feburary, when five-star linebacker recruit Reuben Foster signed to play for Nick Saban. Foster had already made waves when he got a tattoo of the Auburn logo to help commemorate his commitment switch from Alabama to Auburn in the summer of 2012. And though he'd maintained for some time before Signing Day that he would keep the tattoo regardless of where he played college football -- out of respect for murdered relative and former Tiger Ladarious Phillips -- that didn't stop the torrent of laser-removal wisecracks on Twitter last February.
So, it's no surprise that, as part of Wednesday's TideNation.com story on Foster and his recruitment, reporter Alex Scarborough offered this photographic update on Foster's tattoo:
From Scarborough's story:
The tattoo has come to symbolize something more meaningful than football: family. Foster's cousin, former Auburn fullback Ladarious Phillips, was shot and killed a month after Foster flipped his commitment from the Tide to the Tigers. The two lived near one another in Roanoke, Ala., before Foster moved to Georgia and then Auburn. They dreamed of playing together.
"I can remember like yesterday we lived by each other before we even thought about playing football," Foster said. "We're family. I'd borrow his Auburn shorts -- I'm wearing them now."
Foster also told Scarborough that he already has an Alabama script "A" on his left hand and has plans to ink a larger Tide-centric tattoo to his left bicep. Between McCarron and Foster, here's hoping we find out Saban admits to having a full-color portrait of the Denny Chimes across his chest sometime soon.
