PHOTO: Virginia Tech 'Hokie Stone' helmet design
Frank Beamer's official website posted a picture of the design for Virginia Tech's alternate helmet designed to look like Hokie stone.
Virginia Tech's Military Appreciation Day jerseys aren't the only uniform updates raising eyebrows around Blacksburg this week. The Hokies will wear the camo-themed uniforms on Saturday against Marshall, but Thursday afternoon brought an update on a possible alternate helmet for the future.
Hokie Stone, as Blacksburg residents will tell you, is a grey dolomite-limestone rock that can be found everywhere on Virginia Tech's campus. The stone can be found throughout western Virginia, but it most of the supply is protected by the school.
There has been no further information as to if the helmet will be developed or when it might be used. Until then, we can only rock with the photo Virginia Tech provided.
