PHOTOS: Iowa State to wear throwback uniforms against Iowa
The Cyclones will wear 1920s era throwback uniforms against Iowa on September 14.
While it doesn't get much national attention, the annual rivalry game between Iowa State and Iowa is one of the funner contests in the country as the two schools that are separated by only 137 miles don't like each other very much.
And adding a bit more to the game in Ames this season, Iowa State will be wearing special throwback uniforms. The uniforms will be similar to the uniforms Iowa State wore when Jack Trice played for the Cyclones, the man whom their stadium is named after.
“The legend of Jack Trice is a critical piece of Iowa State football history,” said Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads in a release. “His profound impact on our program resonates with our players today. This is a fitting tribute and our current football team is very excited to wear uniforms from that era.”
The last time -- and only time -- Iowa State wore a throwback uniform against Iowa was in 2007 and the Cyclones won that game 15-13. Should Iowa State win this year's game don't be surprised to see Iowa State begin wearing throwbacks every season.
As for the uniforms themselves, I like them. They certainly look different than the new uniforms we tend to see these days, but they're not different in the "HEY LOOK AT ME" mold.
