Publishing company acquires two books from former Rutgers DT Eric LeGrand

Eric LeGrand's story has touched and inspired many, as he continues to battle back from a tackle against Army in 2010 that left him paralyzed. The former Rutgers defensive tackle is determined to walk again, and has already defied the doctors expectations following the injury.

In the last year LeGrand has started standing again with the support of a machine, led the Scarlet Knights onto the field against West Virginia, and begun pursuing a career in sports broadcasting -- spending time in 2011 on the Rutgers' radio network as an analyst.

LeGrand can now add author to his growing resume, with HarperCollins Publishers announcing Tuesday they have acquired two books by the former Scarlet Knight. The books - Believe: My Faith And The Tackle That Changed My Life, an adult memoir, and Believe: The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand, the young readers version - are scheduled for publication in September, 2012.

"I am so happy for this opportunity to share my story in book form," LeGrand said. "I hope BELIEVE will not only help to inspire people who have disabilities, but will resonate with anyone who has suffered in any way. If I can thrive despite my injury and never give up hope, maybe they can do the same thing.

"I hope this book will bring more attention to people with spinal cord injuries. Everything that has happened since that fateful day on the football field has showed me that there is a higher power at work and a plan for me, and I will do everything I can do embrace this still unfolding future for me and for everyone who reads my story."

Former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, now in the NFL with Tampa Bay, honored LeGrand last month with a free agent contract from the Buccaneers. LeGrand is on schedule to earn his degree this fall, and plans to continue work related to football broadcasting.
