NOTRE DAME WON: The Irish sure are good at playing to their competition, aren't they? There's a reason this team is ranked behind Alabama, Oregon and Kansas State and won't be moving into the top two even after Alabama lost on Saturday, and that reason is it wins ugly.

Last week was a triple-overtime victory over a bad Pitt team. This week it was a stale 21-6 win over a Boston College team that came in 2-7.

WHY NOTRE DAME WON: Notre Dame won this game because, to be blunt, Boston College just isn't a good football team. Notre Dame did enough to win this game on offense, racking up 393 yards of offense, but never really looked totally in control of the game, even if the outcome was never in doubt. The defense also seemed disinterested, as it only allowed Boston College two field goals, but it also gave up 300 yards of offense.

The good news for the Irish is that Everett Golson had another solid game, completing 16 of his 24 passes for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. More importantly, Golson didn't turn the ball over, though the Irish did have 2 fumbles on the evening. Theo Riddick led the Irish with 104 yards rushing.

WHEN NOTRE DAME WON: While Boston College hung close for most of the first half, when Golson threw a touchdown pass to John Goodman to give the Irish a 21-3 lead early in the third quarter this game was over.

WHAT NOTRE DAME WON: It's still undefeated, and that's very important. However, if Notre Dame wants any chance of moving into the top two of the BCS without relying on the teams ahead of it to lose, these are the games the Irish need to win 41-3. Much like they did against Navy and Miami. Instead the second straight mediocre performance won't do the Irish any favors in the polls.

WHAT BOSTON COLLEGE LOST: Boston College always loves beating Notre Dame, but it especially loves beating Notre Dame when the Irish are undefeated and have title aspirations. However, the Eagles blew their chance to do so tonight.

THAT WAS CRAZY: This game was on in primetime for some reason.
