The Texas coaching search, as expected, is heating up. And most of the current heat seems to be focused on Louisville coach Charlie Strong.

Yahoo Sports! reported Tuesday that the Longhorns "have inquired" about Strong, who has gone 37-15 in four seasons with the Cardinals and is fresh off a 36-9 blowout of Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

As of early Tuesday morning, Strong had not interviewed with Texas, according to a Louisville source,'s Dennis Dodd reports. Texas athletic director Steve Patterson reached out to Louisville AD Tom Jurich on Tuesday, according to that source, but the two did not speak directly and Texas did not obtain formal permission to speak to Strong, Dodd reported. reported that an interview between Strong and Patterson did not take place Tuesday. That contradicts an earlier report from, which reported that Patterson spoke to Strong at "an undicslosed location" Tuesday. Strong "received a high recommendation from the search firm Korn/Ferry, which is assisting" in the coaching search.

An Austin American-Statesman report Saturday named Strong as one of four coaches -- along with Baylor's Art Briles, Florida State's Jimbo Fisher, and Vanderbilt's James Franklin -- that had been "vetted" as part of the search. reported that Franklin has also already been interviewed, and that Michigan State's Mark Dantonio is another coach targeted by Patterson for an interview.

Fisher and Briles have each signed recent extensions, Fisher's a lucrative deal signed Tueday morning that extends through 2019.
