North Carolina defensive coordinator/associate head coach Vic Koenning will not return to coach on Larry Fedora's staff in 2015, according to multiple reports.

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman and 247Sports' Ross Martin are both reporting that Koenning is out, with Feldman adding that the longtime defensive assistant, and one-time head coach at Wyoming, could end up Neal Brown's staff at Troy.

North Carolina's defense had one of its worst seasons in school history in 2014, ranking dead last in the ACC in yards per game (495.7) and yards per play (6.40). The Tar Heels allowed more than 30 points in eight different games, including a 70-41 loss to in-state rival ECU, and ranked No. 123 in the country in giving up plays of 20 yards or more.

UNC will face Rutgers in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit on Dec. 26. Check out the full 2014-15 college football bowl schedule.
