S Tevin McDonald, three others no longer with UCLA football team
Bruins start spring ball next Tuesday with a smaller roster.
When UCLA opens spring ball next Tuesday, it will be missing four players from its 2012 roster.
Safety Tevin McDonald was dismissed from the program by coach Jim Mora, Jr. after violating team policy, and linebacker Todd Golper and wide receivers Ricky Marvray and Jerry Rice Jr. are graduating from school and no longer on the roster despite having one year of eligibility remaining.
Of the four, McDonald is the biggest loss. The sophomore started for all of 2012 and was third on the team in tackles with 74. He also broke up eight passes and snagged an interception. He is the brother of former USC All-American safety T.J. McDonald and son of ex-USC and NFL All-Pro Tim McDonald. His dismissal is likely related to an incident that led to him being suspended for the Holiday Bowl back in December for what was reportedly a third positive drug test.
The exit of the other three players can best be chalked up to a little "roster maintenance" by Mora Jr.
Marvray caught just three passes for 18 yards last season after undergoing back surgery, while Rice Jr., a former walk-on, had just nine career receptions. Both will likely transfer and play elsewhere in the fall. Golper didn't record a tackle last season while battling back injuries.
